Conveniently located in the heart of Santa Cruz, this hidden gem of a hotel has long been an underrated secret..one I’m finally coming around to revealing. Within walking distance of stores and taquerias, balconies overlooking serene boardwalk views, and all at a great price..it’s hard not to love this place. Bob at the front desk consistently has great vibes and a warm smile that sets the tone for the stay. If you want to live the good life with five star views at a fair price, this place is absolutely worth checking out.

The balcony alone is worth booking this place. My friend and I stayed at Ocean Gate Inn last night and honestly, I’m still reeling from the incredible view. We had a king room with a balcony, and it’s the exact same view you see on all the Santa Cruz postcards and T-shirts. It’s so perfect it almost doesn’t seem real, like a movie set. The room was comfortable and quiet (seriously—super soundproof), and both the elevator and ice machine actually worked, which is huge to me. What really made the experience stand out, though, was the front desk. Bob genuinely cared about our stay. Check-in was smooth, and when we decided to stay another night last minute, he got us taken care of fast so we could enjoy the extra time. When our car died the next morning, he helped us get a jump and handled everything with energy, kindness, and zero attitude. Before we left, he walked us through other room options for future visits and even remembered our deposit before we did. Just solid customer service all around; we look forward to seeing him next time. Even though we live in the area, this stay felt like an actual break from real life. Perfect location, fair prices, and that balcony view is completely unbeatable. Santa Cruz has plenty of places to stay, but this one is officially our new go-to

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-Star Stay at Oceangate Inn Motel – Santa Cruz, CA! My recent stay at the Oceangate Inn Motel in Santa Cruz, CA was absolutely amazing! As a first-time visitor to the city, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I walked into the lobby, Bob at the front desk made me feel genuinely welcomed. His exceptional, above-and-beyond customer service truly made this trip extra special. He was friendly, professional, knowledgeable about the area, and went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed. That level of care and attention added such a meaningful bonus to my first visit to Santa Cruz! The room itself exceeded my expectations. It was incredibly clean, fresh, and very spacious. You can tell they take pride in maintaining the property. Everything was comfortable and well-kept, making it easy to relax and fully enjoy my stay. The location is another huge highlight! The motel is conveniently close to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, making it easy to enjoy the beach and attractions without a long drive. On top of that, there are plenty of restaurants, shopping spots, and other conveniences nearby. Everything you could want is just minutes away! If you're looking for an excellent stay with friendly, outstanding customer service, I highly recommend staying at Oceangate Inn Motel. Loved staying here! The room was very clean, owner was very friendly and checking in and out was easy. The mini fridge, ac unit and tv all worked great. Will definitely be staying here again next time i visit!

I recently stayed at the Ocean Gate Inn in Santa Cruz, and overall, I had a great experience. It is with the utmost pleasure and gratitude that my husband, Eric, and I share our exceptional experience at the Ocean Gate Inn. From the very moment we arrived, our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. We arrived in the early hours of the morning, around 2:00 AM, fully expecting a quiet and perhaps delayed check-in due to the hour. However, after ringing the doorbell, we were greeted within seconds by the gentleman at the front desk, who, despite having been asleep moments before, welcomed us with a warm smile and genuine kindness. His professionalism, attentiveness, and gracious demeanor immediately made us feel valued and at home. That level of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. Our room was equally remarkable. The private balcony overlooking the iconic boardwalk provided a breathtaking view that was both serene and unforgettable. Sitting there together, taking in the coastal atmosphere, was truly the highlight of our stay. It created a sense of peace and romance that made our visit incredibly special. The guy was super cool. we had a late trip and got into town around 1:30 am. had our original reservation canceled even tho we called and planned ahead. ocean gate took us in at 2 am and was very chill and accommodating. room was pretty sweet and decently priced. rooms where clean, so was the balcony.
